The All Progressive Congress (APC) Executive Committee in Ekiti state says it has suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi accused him of funding the campaign of People’s Democratic Party’s candidate in the last governorship election in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

“Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State is hereby suspended from the Party in view of his numerous anti-Party activities especially his role in the recent concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution,” Ekiti State APC SEC said in a statement.

“For five days prior to the Edo elections, Gov Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr. Femi Fani- Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run-up to the Edo elections. It was here they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State.

“This is the same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Mohammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.”

Ekiti APC SEC claimed that Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at APC national leader Bola Tinubu.

The party also accused Fayemi of supporting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate to defeat the APC candidate in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State.

“The second tranche of money he sent to Gov Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers,” Ekiti APC SEC claimed that “The courier Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief Protocol Officer was arrested and he immediately disowned and announced his sack. Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.”

Meanwhile, the governor has claimed those that suspended him were faction of the party saying the whole idea remains a joke taken too far

The statement put further; “that The faction of the party led by Senator Anthony Adeniyi said on Friday in Ado Ekiti that Fayemi was suspended for alleged anti-party activities.

Fayemi in his reaction to the purported suspension through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said that those who carried out the alleged suspension are unknown to Ekiti APC.

“While one would have dismissed their claims as another failed attempt to polarise the party in the state, it is also important to put it on record that the action of the group smacks of criminal impersonation as none of those who signed the purported suspension letter were executive members of the party at ward, Local government or state level,” Oyebode said.

“The action is but a joke taken too far as they never had such power they want to arrogate to themselves while they were members of the party, much less now that they have been suspended.”

Oyebode said the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party is governed by laws, adding that members of the group cannot hide under their recent suspension to announce a dubious suspension they lack the locus to handle.

“Governor Fayemi however remains unperturbed by this antics of suspended members.

“Well meaning members of the public as well as members of APC are urged to disregard the news of the purported suspension as it only exists in the imagination of members of the group.

“Dr Kayode Fayemi remains the indisputable leader of the APC in Ekiti State.”
