Following the report of an attack on Newsacross Publisher and the coordinator
of Ogun insight, Mr Timothy Odedina, yesterday, the Department of Public
Prosecution (DPP) in Ogun state had taken over the case for what it called “Diligent
and proper prosecution” of the case.

Urban Express News-online gathered that the police, although had
earlier arraigned one Adio Bello Rasheed Aka “Bongo” before an  odeda Magistrate  court, it was from there the Directorate of Public persecution (DPP) took over
the case for further prosecution.


A statement coming from the Media consultant to the publisher, a
copy of which was obtained by our correspondent stated that after taking over
the case, the DPP told the court  that the defendant committed the offence on July 13, of this year at somorin, obantoko
within odeda local government  in Ogun
state.

Continuing, it said the accused had committed an offence which is
punishable under section 316 of the criminal code law of Ogun state (2006).

Part of the charges read: “That you Adio Rasheed Bello Aka “Bongo “on the 13th of July 2020 at about 10pm at somorin junction along obantoko
in Abeokuta did unlawfully assaulted one Timothy Odedina, publisher of
Newacross with first blow and cause him injury on lips and forehead, and thereby
committed an offence punishable under section 316 of Ogun criminal code law”

“The accused counsel, however, urged the court to grant his client
bail in most liberal terms, a decision the Representative of the Directorate of
public prosecution did not oppose”.

“The magistrate thereafter granted the accused conditional bail
with a clause of a sum of N250, 000,000. Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira
with two Sureties in like sum”.

“The magistrate also ordered the court registrar to verify the
addresses of the two sureties, who must be a taxpayer in the state”.

“The case is subsequently adjourned till August 7th
2020”
