The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed has warned trouble makers not to test the collective will of the nation as he order All Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Commissioners of Police (CP), Police Mobile Force (PMF) commanders to restore normalcy.
The directive, urban express news gathered was as a result of break down of law and order in some states of the federation where reported cases of hoodlums breaking into warehouses are carting away good items.
In a statement Entitled; Reclaim The Public Space and Restore Normalcy, IGP Orders AIG, PMF, CTU, &SPU Commanders and that which made available to Urban Express-News Online through the Force Public Relation Officer, Dcp Frank Mba said the inspector general of police, IGP Adamu Mohammed has ordered the immediate mobilization of all police operation assets and resources to bring an end to the wanton violence, killings, looting and destruction of public and private property and reclaim the public space from criminal elements masquerading as protesters in some parts of the country.
Mba said the order was given to all AIGs, CPs, head of police operation units, squadron and base commanders in charge of zonal counter-terrorism unit and special protection unit, today 24th October 2020 adding that head of fore formations in various states have also been charged to mobilise their men and work in sync with the command’s commissioners of police in the areas where they are domiciled to dominate the public space and safety in the affected areas.
He said the IGP while noting that enough is enough to all acts of lawlessness, disruption of the public peace and order and wanton violence which have resulted to indiscriminate looting of shops, malls and warehouses, damage to property and loss of lives in some parts of the country, further direct the police strategic managers to personally lead and coordinate the operation and use all legitimate means to halt a further slide into lawlessness and brigandage.
“The inspector general of police enjoins law-abiding citizens not to panic but rather join forces with police and other members of the law enforcement community to protect their communities from the criminal elements”.
“He further calls for understanding and corporation of citizens, assuring that the action is geared toward ensuring public order and safety and public security in our communities”
