Ogun 1 custom command has given chilling details of how its anti-smuggling operatives intercepted Goods worth One Billion, Two hundred and Ninety million Naira (N1,290,180,608,00) ranging from parboiled rice and Premium Motor spirits Popularly known as Petrol within the nation’s border specifically in Ogun state.
‘with our steadfastness to stop the saboteurs of the national economy, Monday, our operatives intercept heavy seizures of contraband in the sum of One Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety Million, One Hundred and Eight Thousand, Six Hundred and Eight Naira, Zero Kobo (₦1,290,108, 608.00)”.
Comptroller Bamidele Markinde in a statement made available to Urban Express-News Online through the command spokesman, Dsc Oloyede said the release was the command’s operation report for the May June 2022
The Statement Put further that ‘Between the month of May 2022 till date, the Command has been able to generate a total sum of Twelve Million, Eight Hundred and Eighteen Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Zero Kobo (₦12,818,181.00) from importation and auction sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol, intercepted at different locations and exit points to the Republic of Benin during our anti-smuggling operations.
“It is interesting to note that the Command’s intensified anti-smuggling operations have continued to gain momentum and culminated into the seizure of two Trucks laden with 882 bags/50kg each of foreign parboiled rice along Abeokuta axis, Ogun State, in line with Sections 46 and 169, respectively, of the Customs and Excise Management Act CEMA, Cap C45 L.F.N. 2004.
“As a whole, a total of 8,417 bags with an estimated duty paid value of One Hundred and Thirty-one Million, One Hundred and Forty-five Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-seven naira only ₦131, 145, 277, which is an equivalent of 14 trailer loads, was seized during the period under review.
“You will agree with me that if such a large quantity of foreign parboiled rice had found its way into the Nigerian markets, it would have undermined the Federal Government Rice Agricultural Policy”.
Meanwhile smuggled truckload of about 320 cartons (23,400 pairs) of imported footwear, which falls under Import Prohibition List, Schedule 3 of Common External Tariff (CET) with an estimated duty paid value of ₦764,974,800.00, was intercepted during our intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operations.
“A fuel Tanker suspected to contain 45,000 litres of adulterated diesel with an estimated duty paid value of Eighty-One Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand, Two Hundred Naira only ₦81, 823, 200 .00, abandoned by a suspected bunkered who absconded upon sighting our operatives, along Sagamu/Ijebuode Expressway, Ogun State, was also seized.
“In addition, about 10,973 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, was seized and disposed of, in line with extant laws.
“As part of our synergy and collaboration with sister security agencies in the State, our operatives in the course of their routine patrol duties intercepted illicit drugs and narcotics, namely 117 small sacks, 6 big sacks, 1,100 wraps (book size), 81 wraps (coconut size) of Cannabis Sativa and 1 carton containing 1,100 packets of Tramadol (225mg per tablet x 10), 300 packets of Tramadol (100mg per tablet x 10) and 168 packets of CocodomolCodein (500mg per tablet x 8) with an estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦221, 820,820.00.

– 120 cartons of new foot wears (including 23 pairs of new slippers) and 53 cartons of foreign used shoes
– 122 Cartons of Foreign Wine
– 72 pieces of used Compressor
– 10 Units of Vehicle (means of conveyance)
– 2 Units of Foreign Used Vehicle (Tokunbo)
– 4 Units of Motorcycle (means of conveyance)
– 289 Cartons of imported Tomato Paste
– Vehicle spare parts
The cumulative estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all the seizures between the month of May and June 2022 amounts to One Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety Million, One Hundred and Eight Thousand, Six Hundred and Eight Naira, Zero Kobo (₦ 1,290,108, 608.00).
