Personnel of the Nigeria Custom attached to Ogun Custom 1 was attacked at ukere village by some hoodlums suspected to be smugglers within yewa local government Area in Ogun State.
This dastardly act was coming after the same attack was carried out on members of its personnel attached to Saki, a linkage that borders Nigeria and other African countries, an outskirt of Oyo state where one life was reportedly lost.
Explaining further, the Public Relation Officer of Ogun Custom 1 command, DSC Hammed Oloyede in a statement said the crack team went on information patrol within ukere village route in yewa north local government while they succeeded in intercepting twenty-eight (28) bags of 5okg, each of foreign parboiled rice smuggled with motorcycles, on their way out of the arrest, some unscrupulous element suspected to be diehard smugglers in their numbers shot sporadically at officers, threw a broken bottle with axes.
Hammed said officers repelled the attack and managed their way out of the location, one person was hit by one of the broken bottles and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he received medical attention adding that one of its official vehicles was equally pelted with bullets.
The Team gallantly succeeded in conveying the aforementioned items to the government warehouse for safekeeping and investigation is ongoing to fish out the perpetrators’ of this barbaric act, Hammed, submit!
Consequently, the custom Area controller, Comptroller Michael Agbara assured members of the public that the renewed hostilities by armed smugglers will not deter officers and men of the command from discharging their legitimate duties, whilst appealing to parent and guardians to warn their children and ward to desist from being used by smugglers as any caught in any said act will face the full weight of the law.
