The Lagos state government has debunked killing claim making the rounds with the understanding that the killings took place during EndSARS protest in the state.
In a statement Entitled; #EndSARS; “No Protesters Killed In Lagos” and that which was obtained on a verified Facebook account of the Lagos state commissioner of information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the attention of the Lagos state government has been drawn to report that an #ENDSARS protesters have been killed in Surulere, “it’s not true”.
Putting the narrative in Proper perspective, Omotoso said a group of hoodlums stormed the anti-kidnapping unit at Hogan Bassey street in Surulere police station and freed two suspects standing trial for alleged kidnapping.
He Added “ they shot three officers, one of them inspector Erinfloami Ayodeji, unfortunately, died while others include Inspector Ekein Joshua and Peter Agabi.
He said the hoodlums while escaping, fired into the air, a bystander was hit and also died, sadly adding that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commiserates with their families who lost loved once!
He words: All those arrested by the police over the #EndSARS protest has been released and they are as follows: Nkemakolam Okpara Felicia ‘f’ 27yrs 2, Nduka Treasure Chiamaka “t” 21 yes 3, Adefita OLarewaju ‘m’ 4, Adeola Adebayo “m’ 5, Ayodeji Ayeni ‚m” and Adebola Ojabodu
We urge all those concerned to ensure that these protests do not degenerate further and create room for hoodlums who do not mean well for our society and that government is working with the police to ensure the restoration of the peace that Lagos is proud of
But the Lagos state police command had in a statement Entitled Lagos CP Sues For Calm, Professionalism As Protesters Turn Violent: One Police Inspector Inspector Killed, two Injured; “stated that on the 12th of October at about 1 pm, some armed “protesters” laid siege on the anti-kidnapping unit office of the command, broke into the cell and librated two of the kidnap cases suspects, before they were tactically and professionally repelled.
Adejobi said inspector Ekei Joshua with AP No 175493, Insp Peter Agabi with AP 251138 and Erinfolami Ayodeji with AP No 22924 (now late) was attached to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Lagos state command, located at iyun road, Surulere was shot and critically injured.
He said the protesters fired and killed on ikechukwu llohamuazo, a 55-year-old who accordingly was driving a Toyota Sienna bus with Reg Number LSD 296FX who got stuck in the traffic caused by the violent “protesters” in Surulere.
He added “ it is pertinent to state that the attacked police inspectors and Mr. ikechukwu llohamauzu were hit and injured by pellet reasonably fired from pump-action locally made guns.
“We appeal to parents and guardian to keep watch on their children and monitor their activities to avoid being mobilized and used for illegal activities, the statement reads”.
