The Lagos state police command has arrested seven suspected members of Eiye confraternity at Agura Area within in ikorodu in the state, as it says henceforth, operatives will beam its searchlight within the said Axis.
Explaining how the arrest was perfected, the Police Public Relation officer, Sp Olumuyiwa Adejobi said operatives attached to imota Division on Saturday 28th, November 2020, at about 2pm arrested those cultists after going to attack official vigilante group, popularly called Agbekoya within the said location to revenge the recent arrest of one of their group.
He said the suspected cultists caused varying degrees of injury on the vigilante officials using machetes and guns
Those Arrested include Abolaji Arbayo,( 21), Josiah Offem (37), Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka (25), Lamidi Taofeeq (41) and Ahmed Shittu (48) who indeed happened to be their driver while Zainab Nurudeen (20) is said to be their armourer, Rabiu Ganiyu and twenty-five others who were in possession of their dangerous weapon fled the scene on sighting the police.
The PPRO said the lagos state command has again reaffirmed that fighting cultism is essential to fighting and curbing crimes and criminalities in the state.
He said the commissioner of police, Lagos state, CP Hakeem Odumosu, made the assertion today at his Ikeja office while reviewing with the staff officers and sectional heads at the command headquarters, the strategies being put in place by the command to curb crimes and criminality, particularly cultism and hooliganism in the state.
Item recovered from them included machetes and some charms, one green paragon bus with registration Number Lagos App 600XA that was used by the suspects for their operation.
Adejobi said the commissioner of police has immediately directed that the case be transferred to the state criminal investigation Department, Panti for proper investigation as well as, sending a signal to the men of the underworld that Lagos state will be too hot for them to operate or hibernate.
“CP Hakeem Odumosu, therefore, ordered the Department of operation to reduce his directives on anti-crime strategies of the command into a signal and circulate same to all police station and formation in the command for strict compliance with immediate effect”, the statement read.
