The social media was awash with the poster of Ondo state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi showing in almost every space in Ondo state signalling a third force movement in preparation to October 10, 2020, upcoming governorship election with other contenders in the All Progressive Congress and The Peoples Democratic Party.
The understanding that is coming from various submission is that the Deputy Governor had ditched the People’s Democratic Party in other for him to contest the election under the zenith labour party sounding the alarm of the emergence of third force movement in the race for Alagbaka house come 10th of October, 2020.
Meanwhile, indications have emerged at the weekend that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP might likely impose the deputy governor as the running mate of the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede.
This, according to sources in the PDP, was part of moves by some concerned members of the party’s NWC to halt Ajayi’s defection to the ZLP.
Urban Express-News online made several attempts to speak with the Deputy Governor’s media aide but none was available, but the PDP Director of media and publicity, Mr Zadock Akinloye in an interview with journalists denied the alleged move coming from the Ondo State Deputy Governor joining the zenith labour party, but rather urged members of the public to disregard the information.
Speculation had it also that the people’s Democratic Party Flagbearer, Mr Jegede had once rejected the choice of Ajayi as a running mate when mooted and instead settled for Olumide Ogunje as surrogate mate before the deadline for submission of the list of Governorship candidates and their running mates!
Urban Express-News Online learnt that the bigwigs in Party had already met with PDP NWC, led by Mr Uche Secondus, on the need to prevail on Jegede to accept Ajayi as running mate so that the PDP camp in the state will not be depleted before the October poll.
It was also learnt that due to the sensitivity of the issue, said: “Jegede may not have the choice than to accept Ajayi as running mate. We can’t afford to go into the poll with a divided house.“Jegede must understand that despite that he defeated Ajayi during the primary, he is still a big favour and big fish in the politics of Ondo State
