The widespread speculations coming amid unconfirmed rumours of defections of governors where a member of the house of representatives, Abdulmumin Jubril has disclosed on a broadcast  station channels television on political platform “politics Today” saying “several high profile politician  of opposition party were on their way to the ruling party”  is yet to abate on the table of public opinion  essentially in the wake of gale of defections that saw about three governors, fifteen senators and thirty-seven house of representatives members leaving the governing party to the opposition People’s Democratic Party.

Jibrin, who had a running battle with the leadership of the Lower House over his attempt to expose some alleged corrupt dealings leading to his suspension, told journalists, yesterday, that apart from those on their way to join the APC, some governors in the opposition parties have actually accepted to work for the success of Buhari’s re-election next year.

Reports making the rounds have it that Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is the Senate Minority Leader, have concluded arrangements to defect to the APC.
But  reacting to this developments, the National Vice Chairman, South-South, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hilliard Eta told Newsmen in Abuja that as far as he  is concerned, the purported moves by three state governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the party still falls within the realm of “speculation”.
Continuing, Jubril said as people are going, people are also coming in. But because it is news that people are leaving the ruling party, they make it big news. A lot of other people from even the opposition are coming in.
His Word: At the moment, not less than four to five PDP governors are working in a cross-party arrangement, working to support the APC.”
Although jubrin had declined to name the PDP governors, but said the unfolding politics in Nigeria has created a situation where serious-minded politicians are looking for ways to better a lot of Nigerians and also creating space for their regional political development, saying: “As time goes on, you will get to see how these things will shape out.”
Even though the opposition governors and its minority leader at the red chambers had dispelled the rumour, many observers believe there are some elements of truth in every rumour and that it just a matter of time since 2019 election is drawing closer, the realities of every of their action would become very clear.
Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Federal Government of shopping for what it called a fraudulent interim court order to declare vacantly, the seat of the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, following his defection from the APC to the PDP.

The PDP in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, yesterday, alerted that credible information at its disposal showed that some cabals in the Presidency and APC had perfected a plan to institute a lawsuit to challenge the validity of Saraki’s seat with the sole aim of securing a fraudulent injunction to force him out of office pending the determination of the substantive suit.
“Further intelligence available to us shows that once they are able to secure the injunction from a particular compromised judicial officer, they intend to arraign and detain the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on trumped-up charges and ensure he is not granted bail so as to keep him out of circulation while their men would move in to effect an illegal leadership change in the Senate.”
The PDP further said that while it trusts that the Chief Justice of Nigeria will protect the sanctity of our judiciary especially at this trying times in our national history, it called on the institution of the judiciary at all levels to immune itself from being used by enemies of our democracy, as no house falls leaving its roof standing.
“This desperation by despotic forces to forcefully and illegally take control of the Senate, the highest symbol of our Democratic Order, is nothing short of “civilianized coup” which must be resisted by all.
“The judiciary must, therefore, ensure that it is not intimidated or ensnared to be party to a desperate bid to destabilize our nation.
According to the opposition party, “The recent rascally attempt to hold Saraki and Ekweremadu hostage in their homes on July 24, 2018, as well as the terrorization of the Benue State House of Assembly after Governor Samuel Ortom’s, defection bear sad testimony to this fact.

We, therefore, call on Nigerians and the international community to be on the alert as the conspirators plan to commence the execution of this evil plot from Tuesday next week.
