The police service commission has approved the promotion of 175 officers, steps0-down 122 others on the basis that the inspector general police was yet to submit presidential approval creating new zonal commands and departments.
A statement made available to Urban Express News online through the head of the commissions Public Affairs; Ikechukwu Ani said the decision was part of the high points of the 9th plenary meeting of the commission which was held on Monday and Tuesday, September 28th and 29th 2020 which was presided by the commission’s chairman, retired inspector general of police musiliu smith.
He said the commission promoted one Assistant inspector general police, AIG Sanusi Lemu to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of police to replace retired DIG Abdulmajid Ali, representing north central, while it promoted one commissioner of police, CP Mustapha Dandaura, Former CP Anambra and rivers to the substantive rank of an assistant inspector general of police
Others promoted include 167 superintendents of police to chief superintends of police, three Deputy superintendents of police to superintendents, two assistants superintendents of police to Deputy superintendents of police and four inspectors to Assistant superintendents.
Ani said the commission stood down the promotion of 122 senior police officers to failure of the inspector general of police to comply with the directive of the commission to attach the presidential approval for the creation of additional police zonal commands and departments from where the vacancies for the recommended officers were harvested.
The commission stood down promotion of 13 commissioners of police to the rank of an Assistants inspector General, eight Deputy Commissioners of police to commissioners of police and 91 chief superintendents to assistant’s commissioners of police.
Ani said 167 superintendents of police promoted to chief superintendents includes Hezekiah Ali, Chukwuma Johnson ubasonye, Samson oyemauche, ismail Lawal, oyedele saka Oyerinde and Nieketian George,
The commission also confirmed the acting appointments of 60 senior police officers including three commissioners of police and deputy commissioners.
Part of the beneficiaries includes Egbedokun Adeolu, commissioner of police kwara and his counterpart in Lagos, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu.
The commission decisions are expected to be conveyed to the inspector general of police on Monday 5th of October 2020, for implementation, the statement read.
