Sokoto state commissioner of police, Cp Ibrahim Kaoje has Dercied the unprofessional conducts of a police sergeant identified Garba Bello who was said to have fired a shot that killed a 25-year-old Aminu Abdulrahaman, leaving others severely injured ‘saying Dare consequences awaits Erring officers found wanting of such act henceforth.
CP Ibrahim kaoje made this known in reaction to the unprofessional conduct of sergeant Bello on special duty in the state.
It was learnt that sergeant Bello Garba attached to counter-terrorism unit base 18 Gusau on special duty at the sultan palace unprofessionally fired without reasonable justification at the material time and as a result, shot dead a 25-year-old Aminu Abdulrahman, while junaidu Abba, Babangida Mohammed and Awaisu Alti sustained various degree of injuries.
A statement coming from the Sokoto state Police Public Relation Officer Asp Mohammed Sadiq said victims were evacuated to a specialist hospital for treatment and autopsy.
Explaining further Sadiq said the incident happened at 2;30pm shortly after special jummat prayers offered in commemoration of Nigeria’s coming 60th independent anniversary at the sultan Bello juma’at mosque.
“While his Excellency, governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal was magnanimously giving out gifts to the needy, the development gave birth to an upsurge in would-be beneficiaries, and in an unconventional effort to control the crowd after the departure of guests, one sergeant Bello unprofessionally fired without reasonable justification, killing Aminu Abdulrahman on spot, leaving others injured”.
“The commissioner of police, Sokoto state command, CP Ibrahim Sani Kaoje had ordered immediate detention and commencement of the trial of the said erring officer in the state criminal investigation department to launch a discrete investigation in other to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident”.
Continuing, Asp Sadiq said the CP Unequivocally caution that officers and men of the command must deploy all professional acumen at their disposal including psychological capacity in other to enhance the safety of the people of the state and not resort to using same against the populace.
