The presidency yesterday had responded to the much talked about
comment coming from the presiding Pastor of Latter-rain Assembly church saying
the president must have a successor plan requesting the president not to allow
those he described as “looters” not to take over the rein of power in 2023.

Reacting to the statement, the special adviser on media and publicity
to president mohammadu Buhari, Mr Femi Adeshina who spoke on channels
television platform “Politics today” live said the call made by the presiding
pastor of citadel community church formerly known as latter Rain Assembly
urging the president to set a succession plan ahead of 2023, can only be
possible through the “ballot box”.

Adeshina stated that president mohammadu Buhari will not “impose”
but rather allow the Nigerian people to choose their leaders through the “ballot”
as enshrined in the 1999 constitution in electing its next president

Bakare had in a state of the nation address on Sunday; urge Buhari to
see how “looters” is not allowed into power as doing so will mean that the anti
corruption war of the president would have been in vain.

The latter rain Assembly pastor was once quoted as saying; “take it to the
mountain top if you have heard it before. I am saying it to you this morning,
in the scheme of things, as far as the politics of Nigeria is concerned, President Buhari
is number 15 and yours sincerely is number 16. I never said that to you before;
I want to let you know it this morning; nothing can change it, in the name of Jesus.

But the media adviser to the president noted that much as Buhari would
love to maintain its legacies’ after leaving in 2023, he would want all the
process anchored on the democratic process instead of insisting on a particular
person to succeed him.

Adeshina Added: “Buhari held his achievement so dearly to his
heart and would have ordinarily not allowed a system that would erase them succeed
him, but clarified that decision on his successor was not for Buhari to take
but that it must be through the ballot”.

“The president will not pick a successor, we know him, he is not
an individual like that, “he will rather ensure it is free, fair and
credible; that nobody will come to use money and resources to manipulate his way into leadership of the country, that will not happen, a hand pick of a
successor”, “no, he won’t do that, Adeshina stated!
