For many, Agodi, a location within Ibadan metropolis is known to be a quelled environment coming with peaceful co-existence of the heterogeneous inhabitants living there.
That was not to be as what was termed as peaceful to many was yesterday disrupted following a clash between some motorcyclists and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) at Agodi Correctional Centre.
The Development, according to an eyewitness was what to the killing of two persons that was reportedly shot in the face
Continuing, an Eyewitness’ who simply identifies self as Olajide told our correspondent that he wasn’t sure if the victim were motorcyclist, trader or bystander
It was gathered that youths made bonfires on rural roads to protest against the shooting where it happens some officials of the correctional centre warned the motorcyclists plying the Iwo Road/Bashorun-Akobo road not to park opposite the prison yard. The motorcyclists allegedly defied the warning, forcing the officials to fire teargas canisters to scare them.
Checks Reveal that many shop owners and passersby ran for their dear lives while the clash lasted, while others hurriedly close their shops, and hid inside.”
NCS Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Anjorin, who confirmed the clash to journalists, however, said normalcy has returned to the area. he said men of Operation Burst, a joint security outfit set up by the Oyo State government, has been stationed at the scene of the incident.
He said: “There was a little misunderstanding between the officers and some Okada riders. They normally pack at the entrance to the prison. We usually tell them to move downward.
“We did it the same way today and there was a little misunderstanding. But, I can tell you that normalcy has returned. Nobody was shot and Operation Burst has been stationed there. Normalcy has returned to the place.”
