The IMO state Police command has debunked claims that the former IMO state governor, Rochas Okorocha was arrested, instead says he was only taken away from the scene to allow for peace and that he had left the command yesterday.
This submission was given by the state Police Public Relation Officer Sp Orlando Ikeokwu who appeared on Sunrise Daily, a Channel Television broadcast this morning and that which was monitored By Urban Express News-online.
Continuing Ikeokwu said the senator was not arrested in the first place but that the police must ensure that peace and order reign, coming with his safety, the senator was taken away from the scene, he added
In a viral video, operatives of the imo state police command were seen requesting the former governor, Rochas Okorocha to enter its Hilux van while engaging in a hot exchange of words with another party that was said to an aide to the current imo governor, hope uzodinma
In a footage yesterday, former governor Okorocha claimed that the incumbent Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, attacked him (Okorocha) with 1,000 thugs.
The ex-governor had stormed the estate with his supporters, policemen, soldiers and personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Sunday morning and ordered the unsealing of the estate.
Government officials had mobilized to the estate, leading to a free-for-all, as cars were smashed and many persons injured.
A police source said that the former governor had been arrested.
The source said, “Rochas Okorocha has been arrested. He is here with us at the state CID. Two of his political associates are also with us. We will record him any moment from now. They are currently meeting with the CP.”
