The Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States official are scheduled to meet on Thursday over visa restriction on some categories of Nigerians, urban express news online have learnt
Some section of the media had reported that the united state government had placed restrictions on some categories of Nigerians over their roles in political happenings in Nigeria.
The United States and other European union has said before now that it was willing to place visa restrictions on those who incite violence or play an active role that leads to political violence in the country. According to information placed on the embassy web page, the united states said the development had become necessary due to unprovoked violence and reported cases of violence before, during and after elections in Nigeria.
In a meeting it held at the Nigeria ministry of foreign affairs, the avenue provided Nigeria with the opportunity to brief the united state government on steps needed to take so far to resolve the issues.
The Nigeria delegation is headed by the permanent secretary, Amb. Mustapha Suleiman, while his counterpart from the united states is headed by the united state Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard.
Briefing newsmen, Suleiman said the government have accomplished so much within a very difficult year, adding that it acknowledge and put on record Nigeria’s response to the concern by the united state government in respect of the immigrant visa restriction that was imposed on some Nigerians.
“I want to say that we appreciate the acknowledgement and the commendation from the united state government in respect to this response”.
He said federal government has put a lot of effort into meeting the requirement, which was why the United States government is re-evaluating the visa restriction
