The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has refuted claims circulating about the release of an official timetable for the 2025 Local Government elections, categorically labelling the reports of scheduled chairmanship and councilorship polls as false.
In a statement issued Friday, LASIEC clarified that the purported election notice currently making the rounds did not originate from the Commission.
It urged political parties, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the unauthorised document.
This clarification follows widespread online reports suggesting that LASIEC had fixed July 19, 2025, as the date for the local government elections across the state.
Addressing the issue, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), reaffirmed that the Commission is strictly guided by legal provisions and procedures, and any official announcement regarding the elections would be made in accordance with statutory guidelines.
“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) that a fake 2025 Notice of Elections is currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, purportedly issued by the Commission,” she stated.
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that such a Notice of Election did not emanate from the Commission and hereby advises Citizens, in particular, Political Parties and all other Critical Stakeholders to disregard such publications.
“The Commission hereby reiterates that the conduct of Local Government Election in Lagos State is a process that is guided by laws and at the appropriate time as stipulated by law, the notice of election shall be published in the various newspapers,” she added.
