Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that he would give up the presidency for ‘peace’ in Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday, Zelensky was asked if he would be willing to “give up” being president of Ukraine in exchange for peace.
The 47-year-old said: “Yes, I am happy if it is for the peace of Ukraine.”
“If you need me to leave this chair, I am ready to do that, and I also can exchange it for Nato membership for Ukraine,” Zelensky added.
Zelensky’s comments come after US President Donald Trump called him a “dictator without elections” a few days ago.
Ukrainian legislation banned elections during martial law, which has been in place since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
Many casualties have been recorded as a result of the war between the neighbouring nations.
