No fewer than six persons have been killed by suspected armed herders in a fresh attack on Tse Ugema Chul, Mbakesa community, Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.

The incident happened on Saturday night, leading to many residents deserting the area.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Urban Express News Online that seven dead bodies had been recovered while many others were still missing.

It was gathered that some youths in the area had mobilised themselves to chase away cattle that strayed into their farmlands and destroyed their yams.

The source said, “While the youths were going after the cattle, unknown gunmen who laid ambush opened fire and killed some of the youths. Six bodies have been recovered.

“After killing the youths, they retreated and started looting the people’s farm produce and destroying their property.

“One of those killed in the attack was one Michael Adeke, who had three days ago posted on his Facebook page about the recurrent attacks in the area by suspected armed herdsmen and the need for the people to defend themselves.”

The incident was confirmed by the Chairman of Ukum LGA, Mr. Jonathan Modi who spoke from the scene of the attack.

“I am in Zaki Biam right now and in pain about what happened and I cannot speak now.”

When contacted, the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, CSP, Catherine Anene said she is yet to be briefed about the incident.
