Sir Laurie Bristow, a former British Ambassador to Russia, has insisted that Russian President, Vladimir Putin will try to use United States President, Donald Trump’s impatience for a ceasefire deal amid the country’s ongoing war with Ukraine.
According to Bristow, Putin will seek to split Ukraine off again from the United States and undermine the US commitment to Europe’s security.
Speaking to Sky News on Thursday, Bristow said: “I think what he [Putin] will seek to do now is to split Ukraine off again from the US and undermine the US commitment to Europe’s security.
“In doing that, I think what he will try to do is use Trump’s impatience for a deal and his impatience across a whole range of issues with the Europeans.”
Russia and Ukraine have been fighting since February 2022 and several casualties have been recorded on both sides.
US President Trump is keen to strike a peace deal to end the war between both neighbouring nations.
In the past few days, Trump’s delegations which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff have successfully gotten a break through from the Ukrainian side.
They are now focused on getting a breakthrough from the Russian side in a bid to have a ceasefire deal as soon as possible.
