Former Governor of Benue state and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has expressed grief over the recent spate of killings and attacks that killed over 127 inhabitants in Yelewata community in Benue
Akume in a statement expressed deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the entire people of Benue state, and the North central, adding that the loss of innocent lives in Yelewata community and other affected areas remains a tragedy that calls for collective grief, while commending President Tinubu for Decisive action and efforts taken so far

Furthermore, I commend the president for his Decisive response in directing an immediate high-level delegation to Benue State and announcing his visit to the said region, as it demonstrates a better commitment to the security and welfare of all Nigerians as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
‘The President decides to visit Benue remained a clear Restatement of his hands-on leadership and empathy for the plight of the affected communities.
He said such Provocative engagements is vital in addressing the root causes of insecurity in fostering sustainable solutions, adding ‘’ that ahead of the president visit, as directed, he’ll be leading a delegation comprising the inspector general of police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security adviser, and key members of the National assembly to assess the situation on ground as it underscores the seriousness with which the president views the attack
He lamented the economic implications of insecurity in Benue, which cannot be overstated. The disruption of agricultural activities, trade, and other financial ventures exacerbated poverty and food insecurity with far-reaching consequences for the entire nation
Akume commended the resilience of the people of Benue and the North Central in the face of adversity, stating that courage and determination inspire hope, and requested them to remain steadfast as the government takes decisive steps to address the challenges
