Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has admitted he would have opted out of the club this summer if he were in Bruno Fernandes’ shoes.
Al-Hilal were ready to offer Fernandes a tax-free contract in the region of £700,000-a-week plus bonuses for him to move to the Middle East.
The Saudi Pro League club were eager to land the Portugal playmaker before the Club World Cup.
The transfer would have seen United bank around £ 100 million, but Fernandes rejected the deal to continue with the Premier League side.
“If I were him, I think I’d have found it difficult to say no. I’ve got to be honest,” Ferdinand told The Mirror.
“The one thing it says to me, there’s a loyalty. And I think that word gets banded about quite a lot, but we don’t see it often from the club’s point of view and the players.”
