Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has spoken out against the Reds’ signing of Alexander Isak for Newcastle United.
According to the Englishman, Arne Slot’s side doesn’t need the Swede to win the English Premier League title this season again.
Isak has been linked with a summer transfer switch to Arne Slot’s side from Newcastle.
The 25-year-old striker is keen to join Liverpool this summer from Newcastle United.
Speaking recently at the launch of Final One Standing by William Hill, James, a retired goalkeeper, said: “Liverpool don’t need Alexander Isak to win the Premier League.
“If they were to sign Isak, one immediate benefit would be that it would significantly weaken Newcastle.
“But that isn’t the difference between winning the Premier League or not – it wouldn’t make them any stronger favourites than they already are.”
Liverpool won the Premier League title last season ahead of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.
They have signed several top players this summer transfer window, including Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
