Manchester United icon Peter Schmeichel has hit out at Arsenal’s boss, Mikel Arteta, over their style of football.
He described Arsenal’s style of football under Arteta as ‘ugly’ and ‘annoying.’
Liverpool handed Arsenal their first defeat of the 2025-26 Premier League season, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s 83rd-minute free-kick securing all three points for Arne Slot’s side at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Schmeichel said he no longer enjoys Arsenal matches, which, according to him, are difficult to watch.
The Dane said on Viaplay that only Liverpool tried to play good football yesterday, while Arteta’s side was frustrating to watch.
“I don’t want to insult Arsenal, but their brand of football is so annoying to watch. It’s designed to exploit opponents’ mistakes while waiting for set pieces. Then they take their time and take the tempo out of the game,” he said.
“Arsenal bring an ugly brand of football to our game.”
The former Manchester United goalkeeper urged Arteta to allow Arsenal to play good football, even if it means they lose matches.
Despite the defeat, Arsenal are widely tipped to finally win the Premier League title this season.
