A special operation will be launched to flush out foreign herders involved in violent or disruptive activities in the Darazo Local Government Area of the state, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has disclosed.

He assured the state command’s determination to foster peace and security among the citizens, stressing the need for non-violent resolutions to farmers-herders disputes as the harvest season approaches.

The Commissioner disclosed during an operational visit to the Darazo Local Government Area, aimed at strengthening security and promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

The event was attended by the Executive Chairman of Darazo Local Government Area, community leaders, representatives of both farming and herding groups, as well as other stakeholders.

CP Aliyu said that the command is collaborating with leaders from both sides through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) strategies to effectively manage and resolve conflicts, adding that a targeted initiative will be launched to regulate the presence of foreign herders in Darazo, to safeguard community harmony and stability.

CSP Ahmed Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement, said the Commissioner encouraged community members to support safety initiatives by sharing timely information with the police and adhering to the rule of law.

He also warned both farmers and herders against taking the law into their own hands.

The Chairman of Darazo Local Government Council, Sama’ila Ya’u Sade, stressed the importance of finding a sustainable solution to the recurring challenges while calling for unity, dialogue, and cooperation among all parties.
