Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has disagreed with his former international teammate, Gary Neville on who is currently the best midfielder in the Premier League.
Carragher instead named Arsenal ‘all-rounder’ Declan Rice as the best midfield player in the league, suggesting the Englishman is superior to Chelsea star, Moises Caicedo, who is the choice of Neville.
Rice joined Arsenal in a deal worth £105m in 2023 and has been impressive since making the move. He is regarded as one of the best midfielders in England.
The same can be said about Caicedo, who joined Chelsea for £115m from Brighton two years ago.
Caicedo has already scored three goals for Chelsea across their opening seven Premier League matches.
Rice has made three assists and scored a goal in Arsenal’s seven top-flight games this term.
Neville feels that Caicedo is ‘the best midfield player in the league’.
But former Liverpool man, Carragher disagreed, arguing that the England international is the better midfielder.
“Caicedo is very close, but he wouldn’t be the best for me,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“If you are talking all-round midfielder, Declan Rice would just pip Caicedo for me, I think he’s just got a little bit of extra quality with the ball.”
Neville had earlier picked Caicedo, saying the Ecuadorian “is the best midfield player in the league at this moment in time.”
