The tenure of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Labour Party, LP, led by Julius Abure ended on June 10, 2024, the party’s stakeholders said on Wednesday.

Urban Express News Online  reports that this was part of the communique released by the LP after its meeting in Abia State State, which produced Nenadi Usman as the Chairperson of the Caretaker committee set up by the party.

It said, “tenure of the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party ended by effusion of time on the 10th of June, 2024. There is a need to ensure that there is no vacuum in the NWC of the party.”

The party explained that the 29-member caretaker committee, which was constituted, had members representing various interests, including the NLC, TUC, Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly and gubernatorial candidates in the last election.

It mandated the committee “to immediately ensure that the ward, local government, state and National congresses and conventions of the Labour Party are held as soon as possible in accordance with the constitution of the Labour Party”.

The communique, which commended Governor Alex Otti for hosting the meeting, urged all members of the Labour Party to support the caretaker committee to achieve its mandate.

Meanwhile, Abure, who shunned the Umuahia meeting, has dismissed the emergence of the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee, declaring the stakeholders’ meeting illegal and unconstitutional.
