The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a fresh 72-hour ultimatum to the Chairman and Commissioners of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to appear before the House.

This follows the expiration of an earlier 48-hour ultimatum.

The resolution was reached during plenary in Port Harcourt on Friday, after a motion was raised by a lawmaker, Enemi George.

Lawmakers deliberated on the matter and voted to extend the ultimatum until Monday, March 10, to allow Justice Adolphus Enebeli, RSIEC chairman, and other officials to appear before them.

This development comes after the House initially planned to go on recess but decided to suspend it following a request by Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol to attend to the RSIEC chairman and his commissioners.

In his remarks, Speaker Martin Amaewhule noted that the Assembly had taken legislative notice of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s failure to present the 2025 budget for consideration, despite being given a 48-hour ultimatum.

Amaewhule warned that necessary actions would be taken in due course.
