The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has shared that despite what many people think, many Nigerian politicians are not motivated by money while in office.
While speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Dogara said numerous officials would be willing to serve without pay if the public’s expectations were adjusted accordingly.
“If we can cut the demands on some of these our government officials by 90 per cent I assure you that there are so many people there who are willing to work free of charge,” Dogara said on the programme.
“But the situation is that you cannot put a lot of burden on my head, and you knock on my leg which I am supposed to stand in order to carry the burden.”
Dogara also mentioned that during a recent visit of former national assembly leaders to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, they discussed the prevailing hardship and hunger in the country.
The former Speaker stated that President Tinubu recognized the situation and assured them that steps were being taken to address the issues of hunger and hardship in the nation.
