Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has backed Taiwo Awoniyi to rediscover his old form.

Awoniyi has yet to open his goal account this season.

The 26-year-old has started just two games for the Tricky Trees this season.

The Nigerian had two spells on the sidelines last season due to injury.

With the former Union Berlin player yet to attain full fitness, Santo believed he would soon get back to his best.

“All the strikers need that moment, but Taiwo did well (against Fulham). It’s been a while since he started. He played 45 minutes and created a lot of situations,” he told Nottingham Post.

“We’re counting on him. It was an option to put him alongside Wood. It’s something we have to work on and improve because it can give us good results, but that was the first time (of using it). I think he did well.”
