Manchester United have made a shortlist of three managers who could replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Fichajes.net reported this via Football Transfers, adding that the Portuguese, who took charge at Old Trafford not long ago, could be on his way out so soon.

Amorim joined Manchester United in November last year following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

The 38-year-old Portuguese arrived from Portuguese side Sporting CP to take over a struggling team but has failed to turn their fortunes around.

Many who believed that the 3-4-3 formation he arrived with was the answer, are now disappointed because the Red Devils have been able to win just four matches in the Premier League under Amorim.

There are fears that the Red Devils could be playing in the Championship next season as they are currently 15th in the Premier League after 25 games.

While United are still competing in the FA Cup and the Europa League, they have been knocked out of the EFL Cup in the quarterfinal stage by Tottenham Hotspur.

Last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League was Spurs third win over the Red Devils this season.

As things get worse for the Manchester giants, the club’s hierarchy is now said to have run out of patience with Amorim and are already preparing contingency plans.

According to the report, Manchester United are looking at a former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, former Chelsea, Tottenham, PSG and Southampton boss, Mauricio Pochettino and another Blues ex-boss, Thomas Tuchel as possible replacements for the former Sporting CP man.

However, the report added that securing the services of the mentioned managers won’t be easy.

Zidane is waiting on the France national team job, with current manager, Didier Deschamps expected to vacate his position as national team coach after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Zidane has previously suggested that he does not want to manage in England.

For Pochettino and Tuchel, both former Chelsea managers are currently in charge of the US and the England men’s national teams, respectively.

Interestingly, the Red Devils apparently considered Tuchel as an option last summer, before opting to continue with Erik ten Hag.

Pochettino, meanwhile, was in the running for the Manchester United job in 2022, before the Dutchman took charge.
