England manager Lee Carsley has reacted to his side’s win against Germany in the European Under-21 Championship final in Slovakia.
Carsley said he was proud of the commitment his players displayed during the competition.
Urban Express News reports that Carsley’s men defeated Germany 3-2 in the final on Saturday night.
Goals from Harvey Elliott and Omari Hutchinson, Nelson Weiper and Paul Nebel ensured the match ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
However, Jonathan Rowe then scored in extra time to give England the victory against Germany at Tehelné Pole.
Speaking after the game, Carsley said it was a great achievement for England to win the competition back-to-back.
“I’m so proud, not of myself but of the players and the commitment that they have shown over the last 28 days,” Carsley said.
“All the instructions we have tried to give to them, they have taken on board so quickly.
“They have so much belief, this squad believe that they can win. And that is the kind of players we need.
“To be European champions for a second time is a great achievement, and I suppose the challenge now is to do it again in two years.”
