Steven Gerrard could return to Rangers as the Scottish club embarks on the search for a new head coach.

Rangers sacked Philippe Clement as their manager following their 2-0 defeat to St. Mirren in February.

Gerrard, who left Al-Ettifaq in January, was tipped to return to his former club, but Barry Ferguson was installed as their interim boss for the remainder of the season.

After losing out to arch-rivals Celtic in the title race, Rangers have now stepped up their search for a new permanent manager.

And according to The Telegraph, Gerrard in their long list of head coach candidates.

Others in contention include former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, ex-Luton Town manager Rob Edwards and Russell Martin.

There are no favourites in the race as the Scottish club wants to carefully analyse before making their final call.
