The average cost for refilling a 12.5-kilogram Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking gas) increased by 69 percent in 2024 to N15,552.56 from N9,194.41 in the corresponding period in 2023.
This is as the price has increased by 9.5 percent on a month-on-month basis to N15,552.56 per 12.5kg in August 2024 from July N14,261.57
The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed this in its LPG price watch for August released on Sunday.
On state profile analysis, Rivers recorded the highest average retail price for the refilling of a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with N17,086.36, followed by Cross River with N17,050.00 and Abia with N17,012.52.
Conversely, the lowest average price was recorded in Bauchi with N13,425.00, followed by Nassarawa and Adamawa with N13,640.94 and N13,725.00, respectively
The figure showed that the price of cooking gas has been on a steady rise, contributing to the hardship Nigerians face.
This comes as NBS in its August inflation data said the country’s headline and food inflation stood at 32.15 and 37.52 percent in August.
