A 27-year-old man, Piti Ezekiel, has been killed, and five persons have been abducted by bandits in Akansan Garmadi, Rumaya Community, Kwassam Ward, in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Danbaba Katuka, the National Secretary of the Kauru Local Government Area CDAs Forum, told DAILY POST that the abducted victims were identified as Afiniki Baban Gida (46 years), Afiniki Timothy (41 years), Talatu Timothy (40 years), Manali Abu (36 years), and Richard Dalhatu (42 years). One Mr Timothy Daure (48 years), a traditional title holder in Kumana Chiefdom, survived with gunshot injuries.
He explained, “The bandits invaded the village on Thursday at about 10:30 pm, taking vantage positions, shooting sporadically, killing Piti Ezekiel, and whisking five people away.”
Urban Express News Online reports that Kauru Local Government Area has recently witnessed incessant attacks by bandits, crippling the economic activities of the locals and displacing many households.
According to Katuka, this is the first time their community has been attacked, creating a nightmare for the people. He urged the government to act swiftly before the terrorists completely sack all Kauru communities.
Katuka further explained that different communities have faced various forms of attacks, lamenting that little has been done by the government to curtail the activities of the criminals.
He stressed the need for strong military operations to flush out the bandits from their camps, adding that many Kauru residents have deserted their communities due to the bandits’ activities, with locals abandoning their farm produce for fear of attacks or kidnappings.
Katuka assured that the communities are ready to provide all necessary support to help address the security challenges in Kauru.
Efforts to reach DSP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
