Thousands of people have been rendered homeless following heavy rainfall that destroyed many houses and farmlands in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, on Friday.

the flood, which started on Friday at about 8:14 a.m., destroyed many houses behind the State Police Commissioner’s residence, making it impossible for residents to save their valuable properties.

A resident of the area, Hamisu Dogo, said that the situation was very terrible, as the heavy rain took everyone by surprise, and people’s properties were destroyed by the uncontrollable flood.

According to him, they were aware that the area is a waterway but built their houses there, believing that the state government would take action to prevent flooding in the area.

“But none of the administrations even cared about our plight, even though we always vote for them. They promise heaven and earth during campaigns, but when they get what they want, they abandon us,” he lamented.

At Angwar Danturai, near Government House, the situation was pitiful as children were seen swimming in the flood, and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed by the ravaging flood.

The situation attracted many people to the scene, and the residents of the area were perplexed by the ugly incident.

The Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gusau was seriously affected by the flood.

When Urban Express News Online visited the secretariat, he was unable to enter the premises because of the heavy flood that inundated the area.

Many places in Gusau were also affected, as many motorists and motorcycle riders were unable to navigate the flood, with some turning back.

It was also gathered that in the Samaru area of Gusau, many houses were submerged by the flood.

At Gengerin Maigemu, the situation was dire, with many houses destroyed, and residents of the area were seen crying over their lost valuable properties.

Many traders in Gusau opened their business places around 1 p.m., while some did not operate at all as they were busy draining water from their houses due to the flood.

Urban Express News reports that business activities were very dull as many business centers could not operate properly, hindering competition in the market.

In Zamfara State, the market behavior has changed drastically following the serious flood disaster, with little activity in the market due to the absence of many traders and patrons.

The flood has affected many parts of the state, but the state government has not made any official statement, apart from the flood disaster that ravaged Gummi Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that recently, a flood destroyed thousands of houses, which attracted the sympathy of prominent individuals like Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and many others.

Federal lawmaker and factional leader of the State All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, donated N10 million Naira and trucks loaded with assorted grains.
