The Katsina State Police Command has said it has foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued four victims, including an infant, on Tuesday.

In a statement by the Command spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, he said that at about 0021 hrs, the Sabuwa Division received a report of a suspected attack on Mazare village by a group of suspected bandits, stating that the assailants shot and injured two persons: Sa’idu Isa, male, age 37, and Sa’idu Wa’alam, male, age 61.

According to the statement, upon receipt of the report, the DPO mobilised and led a team of police operatives to the scene, where a gun battle ensued, leading to the successful rescue of all four kidnapped victims.

However, the suspected kidnappers fled the scene due to superior firepower, while the injured victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

According to the statement, an investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, while commending the efforts of the operatives, urged the public to continue to volunteer timely reports of incidents or suspicious criminal activities for prompt and decisive action.
