Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 95 suspected cultists and recovered arms and ammunition.
Urban Express News Online reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu disclosed this in a statement made available to Urban Express News Online weekend, in Benin City.
Yamu said the suspects were members of the notorious Maphites, Eiye, and Aye confraternities.
He alleged that they have been responsible for the cult supremacy killings in the State.
He said out of the 95 suspects, 64 of them have been charged to court and remanded, while investigation continues on the remaining suspects.
The Public Relations Officer listed items recovered from the suspects to include two locally made pistols, one single-barrel shotgun, and 24 live cartridges.
He added that the suspects were arrested in sustained intelligence-driven raids of their enclaves in Benin City and environs for the past week.
The Commissioner of the Command, Monday Agbonika, however, urged parents and guardians to keep a tab on the activities of their wards to curb the menace of cultism.
Agbonika also warned youths in the State to desist from joining unlawful societies that could only dim their future and ultimately claim their lives or those of other innocent persons.
