Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested seven suspected cultists terrorizing the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.

The suspects are Balogun Ibrahim, Towolawi Omotayo, Oshodi Oluwaseun, Nkechi John, Mustapha Aliu, Opeyemi Rasheed, and Mustapha Sikiru.

According to the police PRO, Omolola Odutola, the suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity had been on the command’s watchlist for various cult-related crimes in the state.

Urban Express News Online gathered that operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, Team arrested the suspects on Thursday during a sting operation.

Odutola stated that the alleged cultists were also engaged in robberies, housebreaking, and illicit drug use.

Items recovered during the arrest include a cut-to-size, locally made, single-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, and a handheld axe.

She said, “The SWAT team received intelligence that members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as the Black Axe cult group, who had been on their watchlist for a long time, were spotted along Ogbo on Ijebu-Ode Road.

“Acting on this information, the SWAT team was dispatched for action, leading to the arrest of seven suspects. A search revealed exhibits including a cut-to-size, locally made, single-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, and a handheld axe.”

Odutola added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members in the area.
