Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made history as the first female African artiste to have a song earn 1 billion streams on Spotify.

She achieved the first as her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, ‘Wait For U,’ recently hit the 1 billion streams mark on Spotify.

The song, which was released in 2022, samples Tems’ song, ‘Higher’ from her debut extended play, ‘For Broken Ears’ (2020).

The song debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 10, making Tems the first African artist to debut atop the chart.

‘Wait for U’ received two nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance, winning the latter.
