An unidentified woman who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday was later recovered dead, despite rescue efforts by marine police officers.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4:00 pm near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront.

Eyewitnesses at the scene suggested the act was a suicide, although the exact cause remains unknown.

According to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, marine police stationed in the area swiftly responded and recovered the woman’s body at the UNILAG shore slipway.

However, medical personnel at UNILAG confirmed her death upon arrival.

The deceased’s body has since been transported to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.

Authorities have yet to identify her or determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

Police officials urge anyone with relevant information to come forward, as investigations into the case continue.
