The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Taraba and Anambra States, alongside the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers across various ranks.

Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere from Abia State has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Taraba State, succeeding CP Peter Oparah. In a similar move, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu from Bayelsa State has been named the new Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, taking over from Obong Nnache Itam.

The Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, urged the newly appointed Commissioners to promptly settle into their roles and ensure the effective maintenance of law and order. He stressed the need for vigilance to prevent any security lapses that could lead to instability.

Argungu further charged the new CPs to demonstrate dedication and commitment to their responsibilities, particularly in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminal activity.

“The Commission will continue to monitor their performance closely and provide the necessary support to help them succeed in their new roles,” Argungu stated.

In addition to the appointments, the PSC has approved the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers, including one Deputy Inspector General (DIG), four Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), and three Commissioners of Police (CPs).

According to PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s decisions have been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
