Police authorities in Plateau State have recovered 35 rustled cows during a routine patrol in Mangun District, Mangu Local Government Area.

The recovery was made on May 1 around 7:00 p.m. by officers from the Mangu Division conducting surveillance to curb livestock theft and restore peace in the region.

According to sources within the Command, 24 of the recovered cows have been reunited with their rightful owners. The handover followed a thorough screening and identification process carried out in collaboration with the Executives of the Cattle Breeders Association and representatives of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.

The remaining 11 cows, which are yet to be claimed, are currently in the custody of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Mangu pending proper identification and verification.

Police say efforts are ongoing to trace the legitimate owners and ensure complete restitution. The recovery is part of the Command’s broader strategy to intensify operations against cattle rustling and encourage peaceful coexistence across communities in Plateau State.

However, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the livestock theft or the reported killings of herdsmen linked to the incident.
