Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong has given conditions to leave the club.
The 27-year-old said he would depart from Barcelona if he felt that he couldn’t contribute enough or the team couldn’t compete for major trophies.
De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019.
His contract with the Spanish La Liga giants will expire in the summer of 2026.
The Dutchman is yet to sign a new deal with the Blaugrana.
De Jong had two summers ago turned down a move to Premier League side Manchester United even after Barcelona tried to force him out.
His future was subject to speculation throughout the last summer transfer window but he ended up staying at Camp Nou.
He has been an integral part of the starting XI in recent seasons, although he struggled with injuries last season.
“People think I want to stay at Barça forever because life outside football is so good here, and it is good, but it’s less important to what happens on the pitch,” De Jong told Voetbal International.
“If I’d feel that I can’t contribute enough, or the team can’t compete, I’d be gone.”
