Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has hit back at club legend Roy Keane over his recent criticism of captain Bruno Fernandes.
Keane had slammed Fernandes for his performances for the Red Devils so far this season following their 3-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town in midweek.
The Irishman labelled Fernandes an ‘imposter’, adding that the Portuguese midfielder is “saving Man United, who sit in 14th position on the Premier League table.”
However, Amorim has now defended Fernandes, insisting that Keane’s comments do not matter.
“I heard about that,” Amorim said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Man United’s FA Cup tie with Fulham on Sunday.
“I have a different opinion. Bruno is really important for us at the club, especially for me.
“I know sometimes he does things as a captain, like gesturing with his arms, and sometimes it looks like he is criticising his teammates. But I think, more than anything, it is frustration—frustration from this year, last year, and even before that.
“Everybody has an opinion. Roy Keane has high standards from his time as a player, so it’s normal for him to have an opinion.
“I have the opposite opinion, and I think my opinion is more important than Roy Keane’s because I am the coach, and I believe Bruno is doing quite well.”
