The relations between Russia and the United States are going back to normality, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared on Saturday in Turkey.
During a panel discussion at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Lavrov blamed the Biden administration for the strained Moscow- Washington relationship in recent years.
The top Russian diplomat accused the past U.S. government of minimizing communication with Russia, calling its attitude “a disgrace.”
Lavrov observed that since President Donald Trump returned to the White House, his actions toward Moscow marked a “return to normality.”
“There is nothing wrong with Russia and US having good relations,” the foreign minister said.
“What he [Mr Trump] is suggesting is going back to normality, to stop this idiotic posture, which was a disgrace.”
Lavrov also knocked UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron for planning to send peacekeepers to Ukraine ahead of a possible ceasefire.
The minister noted that President Trump seems “to understand much more about what is going on than any European Union country.”
Lavrov, however, praised Hungary and Slovakia for their stance on deployment of a force contingent, saying “their leaders are quite thoughtful.”
