Former Super Eagles defender Abbey George has revealed that head coach Eric Chelle and the players were responsible for Nigeria’s heartbreaking 2026 FIFA World Cup 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe.
Recall that Zimbabwe shocked the Super Eagles with a late equalizer at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Tuesday.
Victor Osimhen had given Nigeria the lead in the second half after several missed chances in the first half from several Super Eagles players.
But substitute Tawanda Chirewa equalized for Zimbabwe after ghosting past Williams Troost-Ekong to put the ball past goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
But George believes the entire Super Eagles squad and Chelle are to be blamed for the outcome of the match.
Speaking with Brila FM about the result of the match at Akpabio Stadium, George said: “It was sad to see but the coach and the players have to take responsibility.”
Nigeria are now six points behind leaders South Africa in Group C with four matches remaining to conclude the World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles will tackle Rwanda in their next World Cup qualifier in September.
