Former Arsenal star, Paul Merson, has cautioned that the Gunners won’t secure the Premier League title if head coach Mikel Arteta continues to play midfielder Mikel Merino as a centre-forward instead of Viktor Gyokeres.
Arsenal currently leads at the top of the Premier League table with two points ahead of Manchester City.
The Gunners will face Wolves this weekend after losing their last Premier League match against Aston Villa last weekend.
“I thought Mikel Arteta got it wrong when he used Mikel Merino as the centre-forward in the game against Villa,” Merson told Sportskeeda.
“I know Merino scores a lot of important goals, but Villa were bang in form, and they needed someone like Viktor Gyokeres in that line-up to unsettle the opponents.
“I have said this before, and I will say it again, Arsenal won’t win the league if they keep playing Merino as their centre-forward.”
