Neymar Jr has finally revealed why he decided to leave Barcelona in the 2017/18 campaign.
The Brazilian’s departure from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain has long been surrounded by speculation.
However, in a recent interview with Brazilian football icon, Romario, Neymar revealed the true reasons behind his decision to leave the Catalan club.
Neymar moved to Barcelona from the Brazilian side, Santos FC in the 2013/14 season. He joined in a blockbuster $90 million transfer.
The forward went on to become one of the best players in the world during his time in the club.
After spending four successful years at the Catalan side, the Brazilian shocked fans by announcing he was leaving for PSG, a move that left many wondering about his motivations.
“I didn’t leave Barça to be the best in the world at PSG,” he told Romario.
“Messi told me: why are you leaving? Do you want to be the best player in the world? I can make you the best player in the world.
“I told him no. It’s not that. It’s something personal. Financially, it was better than what I had at Barcelona… and there were Brazilians there too.
“I wanted to play with the Brazilians. There was Thiago Silva, Dani Alves just signed, Marquinhos, Lucas Moura. They were all my friends.”
