The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has received a formal request from a law firm, John Nwobodo & Associates, seeking the Release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME) questions and answers for more than 1.5 million candidates.

Urban Express News Online recalls that this comes with concerns over the exam’s high failure rate, with over 70% of candidates scoring below the 200 mark.

The results Sparked Criticism among Various Nigerians

The law firm, representing 1,534,654 candidates, raised suspicions of possible discrepancies in the results and suggested there may have been a malfunction in JAMB’s software.

According to the firm, candidates’ scores varied widely from below 100 to between 160 and 199, with some of the lowest scorers expressing doubts about the integrity of the examination process.

In their letter to JAMB, the solicitors said: “The above scenario has cast a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the software deployed by the Board in administering and marking the questions.

“Unfortunately, the system is designed in such a way that candidates can only see their subject scores and overall aggregate, without access to detailed breakdowns.

“Furthermore, this situation has placed the Board under intense scrutiny, making transparency and accountability not just necessary but non-negotiable moving forward.”

The legal team also urged JAMB to demonstrate openness by releasing the complete set of questions and answers for each candidate, enabling them to independently assess their performance.

“In the circumstances, the transparency and accountability required of the Board entail a reconfiguration of your system to not only display the aggregate score of the candidates but also the questions and the corresponding answers.

“The approach will either confirm the published results, boosting public trust, or reveal issues requiring reforms to improve exam integrity.

“The law firm emphasised that their clients are ready to pursue legal action if JAMB fails to comply with the request, underscoring their commitment to ensuring that the examination results are accurate and fair.

“Take notice that we have the instruction of our clients to explore every legal avenue to seek justice for the aggrieved candidates.

“We would be happy to work with you on any actions that could help address the concerns of candidates about their true performance in the 2025 UTME,” the letter stated.

The letter concluded by urging JAMB to provide a timely response by the deadlines set by the Freedom of Information Act.
