Nigeria’s former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has threatened legal action against Senator Elisha Abbo over alleged libelous statements.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja sacked Elisha Abbo, the former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, in October 2023.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue a Certificate of Return to Amos Yohanna of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as the validly elected lawmaker.

However, speaking in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time Show on Wednesday, Abbo accused the judiciary of manipulating the 2023 election outcome against him.

He also claimed that Ken Nnamani, a former Senate president, visited him to plead on behalf of a judge for the miscarriage of justice.

Reacting to the interview in a statement made available to Urban Express News Online on Saturday, Nnamani called Abbo’s claim “a blatant lie” and urged the public to disregard it.

While threatening legal action against him, the former Senate president said, “I don’t know how Senator Abbo can boldly fabricate an event that never happened to buttress his allegation of judicial miscarriage against him.

“I have never visited him at his house or anywhere. I don’t know where he lives. I have never discussed with him about his case or any case decided by a court of law in Nigeria. The only time we met was when he visited me at my house, and it was more of a social visit.

“While I contemplate private legal action for Senator Abbo’s libelous statements, I want the public to completely disregard his falsehood.”
